DOJ Charged Three Iranians Linked to Hack on Trump Campaign

The DOJ charged three Iranian nationals for their alleged involvement in hacking the Trump campaign in an attempt to sway the 2024 presidential election. Masoud Jalili, Yaser Balaghi, and Seyyed Ali Aghamiri face charges including conspiracy to obtain information from a protected computer, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. These individuals are reportedly linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This group has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S.

The charges followed an FBI-led investigation after campaign documents were stolen and shared with journalists. This incident allegedly involved a broader Iranian effort to interfere in U.S. politics. A recent Microsoft report noted that Iran-backed hackers had attempted to target a senior U.S. campaign official with spear-phishing tactics, further fueling concerns about foreign interference in the upcoming election.

The Trump campaign previously accused these hackers of trying to destabilize the democratic process by leaking sensitive information. The FBI confirmed the investigation into the breach, reinforcing claims of foreign meddling.
