Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 to Drop Samsung Messages in the U.S.

According to reports, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 models will not include the Samsung Messages app pre-installed in the U.S. Instead, these new models will use Google Messages as the default texting app. Users who prefer Samsung Messages must download it separately from the Galaxy Store.

The transition to Google Messages began in 2022, when Samsung made it the default messaging app to support the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging, enhancing texting capabilities and user experience.

A message from Samsung, shared by Android leaker Max Weinbach, stated, “Starting with the Flip 6, Fold 6 and newer models, the Samsung Messages app will no longer be preloaded. Instead, Google Messages will provide a new and enhanced experience to express your emotions, making communication safe and fun.”

This change appears to apply exclusively to phones sold in the U.S. According to Android insider Mishaal Rahman, versions of the foldable phones sold in Canada and Europe will still include the Samsung Messages app.
