Google TV Streamer Set to Replace Chromecast with New Design

Google is preparing to launch its latest streaming device, the Google TV Streamer. This device marks a significant departure from the HDMI dongle design of its previous Chromecasts. As revealed by 9to5Google, the new device adopts a slanted set-top box design.

Not only is the Chromecast design being left behind, but the name "Chromecast" is also being retired in favour of "Google TV Streamer." The new set-top box aligns with Google's recent hardware aesthetic. The remote included with the device resembles the previous Chromecast remote but is longer and features a volume rocker on the front.

The Google TV Streamer is expected to debut at Google's August 13th hardware event alongside other anticipated products such as the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9, Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 3 XL, and potentially more surprises.

This shift may position the Google TV Streamer as a more robust streaming player, rivalling the Apple TV 4K. The Chromecast with Google TV, released in 2020, didn't quite meet performance expectations, leaving the Nvidia Shield as the top alternative. The upcoming event will reveal if the Google TV Streamer can enhance specs while maintaining an affordable price point under $100.
