Huawei to Challenge Apple with New Launch Hours After iPhone 16 Debut

Huawei Technologies Co. is set to face off against Apple Inc. in a high-stakes product showdown. The company is scheduling a significant event just hours after Apple’s anticipated iPhone 16 launch. On September 10, Huawei plans to unveil innovations, marking its latest attempt to reclaim market share and challenge Apple’s dominance.

Richard Yu, the head of Huawei’s consumer group, teased the upcoming reveal on Weibo, calling it an “epoch-making product” that has been five years in the making. Insiders suggest that Huawei’s centrepiece could be the world’s first commercially available smartphone that folds twice, offering a large, tablet-sized display within the compact form of a regular smartphone. The company is also expected to introduce a new Aito electric vehicle, although details remain unclear.

Meanwhile, Apple is set to launch its latest iPhone lineup on September 9, which will likely dominate headlines as it pitches consumers on upgrading to its new devices. The timing of Huawei’s event indicates a direct challenge, as the company aims to position itself as a top contender in the premium smartphone market.

Huawei has been making significant strides in the Chinese market, recently pushing Apple out of the top five device makers in the June quarter. The success of Huawei’s Mate 60 series, powered by a breakthrough chip, has helped the company regain momentum. The upcoming launch event suggests that Huawei is ready to escalate its competition with Apple, particularly in the foldable smartphone segment, where it has been a leader alongside other Chinese companies like Honor Device Co. and Xiaomi Corp.

Richard Yu has already demonstrated the new trifold device, which could be a game-changer for consumers seeking larger screens in more portable designs. As both companies prepare to unveil their latest offerings, the tech world is gearing up for a significant clash between these two industry giants.
